Frances Schultz - artist, author, and the keynote speaker at the 2017 NSCDA-NC Annual Meeting- has sold her beloved Bee Cottage.

The Bee Cottage is an early 20th century house in East Hampton that Schultz bought in 2008. She spent two years renovating it to be her own personal oasis. Bright colors and bold patterns enliven the small space while mid century furniture like high back chairs make the lower ceilings less noticeable.

The Bee Cottage is the center of her memoir The Bee Cottage Story-How I Made a Muddle of Things and Decorated My Way Back to Happiness in which she talks about how decorating and renovating her home became her version of therapy. With each area of the house, she slowly pulls together the pieces of her complicated life and discovers many life lessons along the way.

The book was inspired by her House Beautiful magazine series where she shares before and after photographs of the Bee Cottage. With vibrant pictures of the renovations and a compelling tale of self-improvement, it is not the typical memoir.

At the NC Society’s Annual Meeting in April, Schultz delighted her audience with her funny anecdotes and lively nature. A Dame herself, Schultz was born and raised in North Carolina and graduated from St. Mary’s in Raleigh. She then obtained a B.A. from the University of Virginia. She currently resides in California with her husband, dog, and horses. Though she will miss the Bee Cottage dearly, Schultz is excited to enter a new chapter in her life.
