WILMINGTON -- The Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens will host artist Ann Hair for its monthly Fourth Friday Gallery Night with a reception 6-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24.

Ann Hair is an award-winning Wilmington artist who enjoys traveling and capturing the essence and flavor of an area in her paintings. She loves painting “en plein air” and from life in the studio. She feels working from life adds an authenticity and depth that cannot be captured from a photograph.

Her solo show “Hometown Memories” shares her love for the Cape Fear region. Her impressionistic style captures the Wilmington area beautifully with paintings from the river to the beaches.

Coinciding with Hair’s artwork will be a pop-up exhibit from the museum’s collection representing various forms of entertainment in the 18th century. Items such as a walnut game table, loo chips, tilt-top tea table, flute, music stand, piano stool, and a volume of piano music will be on display; giving visitors an insight into recreational activities during the 18th century.

The Chippendale style game table is the centerpiece of the exhibit. Made in England in 1740, it features a red felt top and candle stands at each corner. Tables like these were created primarily for affluent families in America, Britain and other parts of Europe. After dinner, family and friends would often play card games such as faro, basset, whist and piquet.
