"Behind Enemy Lines: Women in Revolutionary Wilmington, 1775-1783" with Kimberly Sherman

The men of Wilmington may have been on the frontlines of the American Revolution, but the women have their own stories to tell.

Join us at the Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens on Aug. 31 as Dr. Kimberly B. Sherman discusses the experiences of both Loyalist and Patriot women in Wilmington during the Revolutionary era, from the earliest stirrings of conflict through the British Occupation of 1781. Women and families keenly felt the effects of war and occupation, and the talk will explore some of the ways in which women supported one another across political divides and survived the ordeal of civil war in North Carolina.

Doors open at 5:30pm.

Admission is free, with a suggested $10 to the Burgwin-Wright. All proceeds go toward the continued preservation of Wilmington's oldest historic site.

Dr. Kimberly B. Sherman is a historian, writer and educator in Wilmington, NC. She earned BA and MA degrees in History from UNC Wilmington and her Ph.D. in Modern History at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland where she researched Scottish family networks in eighteenth-century North Carolina.
