an and author of 19 books, seven on World War II. He is also the recipient
of the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine award, and the chairman of t
he USS North Carolina Battleship Commission. Most recently, he conceived, o
rganized, and led the 12-1/2 year national history preservation project lea
ding to the city’s 2020 designation as “America’s First World War II Herita
ge City.”
