In August of 1935, the president of the National Society, Mrs. Joseph V. Hutchinson, visited the Mecklenburg County committee. Various members hosted events to honor Mrs. Hutchinson, along with Mrs. Alfred M. Waddell, honorary president of the NC Society, and Mrs. J. Walter Williamson, president of the NC Society.

Mrs. S. Westray Battle opened her home to Mrs. Hutchinson for 10 days, and hosted the 4th Annual Mid-Summer Tea. Mrs. Battle’s granddaughters welcomed guests in colonial attire matching the official colors of the Society, yellow and blue. Mrs. Charles A. Cannon, non-resident Vice President of the West for the North Carolina Society, hosted a luncheon to honor Mrs. Hutchinson, Mrs. Waddell, and Mrs. Williamson. 125 Dames attended the luncheon, representing 6 states.

Prior to the unveiling of the Steele Creek Church tablet on August 15, Mrs. Jeremiah Goff informally entertained the distinguished guests at her home. The Mecklenburg County Committee and all other visiting Dames were welcome to attend.
