A local Wilmington newspaper documents the events of North Carolina Dames first annual meeting in 1895.

The meeting took place at Miss Hart's school house on January 2. Mrs. George Wilson Kidder, the president and founder, presided.

That evening Mrs. Kidder hosted a reception at her residence. Guests participated in old time dances, such as the Sir Roger de Caverly. Supper was served at midnight, then the function adjourned.
