The Role of Women in Historic PreservationJoin historian, Christine Lamberton, for a talk about the contributions in the field of preservation by the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the State of North Carolina.
Initiated by women throughout the country, preservation evolved out of a sense of national duty. The NSCDA-NC members were fundamental leaders in saving a number of structures throughout North Carolina from demolition, among them the four colonial houses they own and support today; the Burgwin-Wright House, Joel Lane House, Haywood Hall, and the Fourth House. In addition, they have lent their support in countless other projects such as the restoration of the Oval Room and Rosedale plantation, and financially support Sulgrave Manor, Gunston Hall, and their national headquarters, Dumbarton House.
