Distinctive Destinations logoThe National Trust for Historic Preservation recently added the Burgwin-Wright House to its roster of Distinctive Destinations.  This prestigious affiliation consists of fewer than 250 historic sites nationwide, which the National Trust promotes on its website: savingplaces.org/distinctive-destinations.

Built in 1770, the Burgwin-Wright House will celebrate its 250th birthday in 2020.  Several structures at the site actually predate the Georgian residence, having been part of the original city jail, circa 1744.

Operated as a museum interpreting colonial history, the Burgwin-Wright House is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday with guided tours offered on the hour.  The museum house also hosts a variety of programs and special events, including Fourth Friday Gallery Nights and a monthly night tour.  Each year every fourth grade class in the New Hanover County school system makes an educational field trip to the Burgwin-Wright House free of charge, a tradition dating back to 1952.

Members of the National Trust receive $2.00 off admission to the museum and may take advantage of a 10% discount in the gift store.
